Starting Your Career
To become a real property appraiser, you will need to meet the minimum requirements
set by the Appraisal Qualifications Board (AQB) in the following three areas:
What is the AQB?
The AQB is an independent board of The Appraisal Foundation. Under the provisions
of Title XI of the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act of
1989 (FIRREA), the AQB establishes the minimum education, experience and examination
requirements for real property appraisers to obtain a state certification. To learn
more about the AQB, click here.
Education
The current AQB minimum education criteria are outlined in the table below. In addition
to required education hours, there is also a uniform state licensing/certification
examination and a college degree requirement for the certified levels.
