About Find An Appraiser

This Directory lists real estate appraisers who are designated or associate members of the Appraisal Institute. The designation(s) after a member’s name (MAI, SRPA, SRA, SREA, RM) signify that such member has met the Appraisal Institute’s rigorous education, testing, experience, and other requirements for such designation(s) at the time the member earned such designation(s). Directory policy limits designated members of the Appraisal Institute to display up to two non-competing designations (one general, one residential—for example, MAI, SRA or SRPA, SRA) with their listing in the Directory.

Other than a member’s membership designation, all other individual member information was provided solely by the member, and the Appraisal Institute has not reviewed or verified such information. The Appraisal Institute makes no representation as to the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of the information in these listings and takes no responsibility for such information.

Search Hints

You can search on as many search functions as necessary, depending on whether you are searching for a particular member or seeking the name(s) of members in a given area or who do specific types of work. You do not have to fill out every search field. Choose the criteria that best meet your needs.

Wild Card Searching
In cases where you may have incomplete information to begin your search (for example, not sure on spelling of a member’s name), you may do a "wild card" search. To do wild card searches, a percent sign (%) can be entered into the fields. For your convenience, the "automatic wild card searching" will put a percent sign (%) at the end of every search field for you. For example, to find members whose last name starts with "Gar," a wild card search of 'Gar%' will retrieve Garber, Garcia, Gardner, Garrett, etc. For more advanced searching, you can use a percent sign before and after a search item. For example, to find members with ABC in the company name, enter %ABC% into the Company field.

Zip Code Search Radius
You may search for members within a given radius of a specific Zip Code. The default radius is set at 5 miles. To increase or decrease the number of your results, simply increase or decrease the number in the Within box to your required distance.

Results That Don’t Seem to Fit Criteria
Some designated members have requested their listing to appear under a different city (and state) to increase their market visibility (for example, under Washington, D.C., for a Bethesda, MD, address). Because of this, your search results may display addresses that do not seem to belong to your search criteria. This is because the search logic is also looking at this "listed under" city and state in addition to the member's actual address.

If you are using a compound city name in your search and the results do not reflect the way you have input your request, please send a message to our Webmaster at web@appraisalinstitute.org to add this to our "city smart search" list.

Business Services & Property Types Searches
Directory users may search for Appraisal Institute designated members by specific business services and/or property types. Only those designated members who have completed a Member Profile will be reflected in such searches. Major property type categories include Residential, Land, Commercial, Industrial, Public, Recreational, Agricultural, Special Purpose and Ownership Forms, each of which has a number of subset options (see drop-down boxes). Member Profiles may also provide additional information on the market area(s) served, formal education, foreign language ability and other professional affiliations of such designated members. To view a Member Profile, click on the Member Profile icon above a designated member’s listing in search results.

Designations
Directory policy limits designated members of the Appraisal Institute to display up to two non-competing designations (one general, one residential—for example, MAI, SRA or SRPA, SRA) with their listing in the Directory. If you search by designation, you may get results that do not seem to fit your search criteria. This is because the search logic looks at all the designations a member has earned.

Minority and Women Directory
Because many states, federal agencies and financial institutions require the assignment of a portion of appraisal work to qualifying minorities, women and persons with disabilities (and/or minority- and women-owned businesses), the Appraisal Institute's Diversity Committee has compiled this Directory of Minority and Women Real Estate Appraisers.  The individuals listed in this Directory are Appraisal Institute designated and associate members who responded to various published notices requesting the names of minority and women real estate appraisers who wished to be included in this Directory. This Directory does not purport to be a complete or accurate compilation of all minority and women members of the Appraisal Institute.

Results Per Page:
In displaying search results, the default is to display 15 appraisers per "page" or screen. If desired, you can change this field to display more per page.

Sort By:
By default search results will appear in random order (the random order is adjusted every 20 minutes). You can adjust this to order the list by Name, Zip Code, Company name or City sequence.
