- The appraisal industry has become increasingly competitive in recent years, and membership in the Appraisal Institute demonstrates that you are a well-credentialed and highly qualified valuation professional who is serious about your career
- Member Benefits provide access to educational materials and business tools geared toward moving you ahead in the profession
Who can become an Associate member?
- Those that perform work identified by the Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (such as USPAP or IVS)
- Those with an interest in pursuing the prestigious MAI or SRA designations
What are the requirements for Associate membership?
- Within each cycle, you must meet both components of the Standards and Ethics requirement:
- Within the initial cycle, the Associate member must provide proof of passing the 15-Hour National Uniform Standards of Professional Practice (USPAP) course/exam. Once the Associate member has advanced beyond the initial cycle, the 7-Hour USPAP may be taken instead for subsequent Standards and Ethics cycles.
- Pass the Appraisal Institute's Business Practices and Ethics course, available online and in the classroom
*Note: New Associate members must meet these requirements within the first year of membership.
Prior Associate members seeking readmission must meet the above Standards and Ethics requirements within the four (4) years prior to applying for readmission.
- Within each 5-year Appraisal Institute continuing education cycle, you must complete seventy (70) hours of continuing education, which must include:
- The Standards and Ethics education as listed above
- The Appraisal Curriculum Overview requirement

What are the MAI and SRA designations?
- MAI Designated members are experienced in the valuation of commercial, industrial, residential and other types of properties and advise clients on real estate investment decisions. Students enrolled in an Appraisal Institute-approved Master’s Degree Program may work toward their MAI designation while pursuing their advanced degrees.
- SRA Designated members are experienced in the valuation of residential real property
What are the Associate membership dues?
- Dues are $310 per year, but are prorated for members joining between January 1 and October 31. Members joining after October 31 are charged full dues for the upcoming year.
